Court of Appeals of the State of Georgia ATLANTA,____________________ October 19, 2026 The Court of Appeals hereby passes the following order: A27A0571. NECHANTA DENISE ALEXANDER v. HIGH ELECTRICAL, LLC. This case began as a breach of contract claim in magistrate court. After the magistrate court awarded judgment in favor of High Electrical, LLC, Shawn Alexander appealed to the superior court. In November 2024, the superior court entered an order confirming the judgment. Thereafter, both parties filed various post- judgment motions. The superior court ultimately granted High Electrical’s motion to amend the case caption to reflect Alexander’s real name, Nechanta Denise Alexander, denied Alexander’s motion to recuse and her other remaining motions, and directed the clerk to accept no further filings in the case, and Alexander filed this direct appeal. We, however, lack jurisdiction. Because the underlying action involved the superior court’s review of a magistrate court decision, OCGA § 5-6-35(a)(1) is the exclusive procedure for appeal, which requires compliance with the discretionary appeals procedure. Bullock v. Sand, 260 Ga. App. 874, 875 (581 SE2d 333) (2003). “Compliance with the discretionary appeals procedure is jurisdictional.” Smoak v. Dep’t of Human Res., 221 Ga. App. 257, 257 (471 SE2d 60) (1996). Alexander’s failure to file a discretionary application deprives this Court of jurisdiction over this appeal, which is hereby DISMISSED.
